Quilling is the medieval art form that uses strips of paper,
rolling and shaping them to create decorative designs.
The shaped coils that
are created are arranged to form flowers, leaves and various ornamental
patterns that look very similar to scrolled iron work.
The term quilling is
said to come from the way that the curled pieces of paper were made. Nuns
and monks originally used feather quills as their tools to shape the paper.
Quilling was originally performed to decorate book covers and religious
items throughout France and Italy during Renaissance times.
The art of quilling was commonly practiced by leisure in the 18th century, it was never
done by the working class because only those with money could afford to
purchase the supplies needed to quill.
Also only the upper class women had
the time to quill, not needing to work they filled their time quilling while
waiting for an eligible bachelor to make them their wife.
All of the quilling that we are going to be apply
are going to be glued permanently to your invitation. So no need to
worry about flowers shifting once your quilling is complete.
